FT.com / Telecoms - PCCW set to build UK broadband network
It's normally the other way around, but a new startup from PCCW is sounding out partners for its 4G network. UK Broadband is looking to set up an LTE network in 2012 and is reportedly going to provide services on a wholesale basis. This means they will need partners to find the paying customers, namely MVNOs sourcing business for them.
Rollout is expected during H2 2011, with a launch in 2012 using their 3.5 and 3.6 GHz frequencies. This will leave BT looking on anxiously as it rolls out a new fibre optic network.
Could a massive LTE offering knock out the UK market for fixed (1 place, 1 access, can't take it with you) broadband?
